The Production Process for making the games corner, contains the pre production, the production and the post production. Starting with the pre production consists of planning the filming of the show with the set design and the location recces and the call sheets as well as contacting the hosts of the show and getting the equipment. Our group and me specifically was in charge of filming the intros and outros and the footage in the studio between different segments of the show, we was in charge of designing and putting up the set as well as drawing up some shot plans for the filming we will go onto doing in production. When We was going through production our group was in charge of the filming, set design and equipment which included setting up cameras to the correct settings as well and putting up all the set posters and getting the equipment and props in such as the seats that the presenters sit on and the main TV with the logo and some footage on. then making sure that everything is filmed correctly and gathering all content together. As well as filming our group was also in charge of the sound so either operating a Rode boom mic over the set or setting up the lapel mics on the presenters and operating them. we are also responsible of returning everything to how it should be after using the area for filming and returning equipment. Going onto post production our main part is editing the footage together to make the final TV show. We needed to check through all the footage in post production to make sure that everything is complete and nothing featured on the footage can be seen as inappropriate towards the viewers. Our group was specifically responsible for the studio parts of the show such as the intros and outros and set design in production, but in post production we was in charge of editing the whole show together as one, which in turn made to responsible for keeping track of all the other segments.
Key Decisions Made
I think that one of the key decisions made by us was the location and set of the show. Making the decisions to film it in a studio in our college gave us a variety of different ideas and styles that were available to do when designing the set. The set design made a big difference to the show because I think that it sets the idea of what the show is about and fits very well in the genre. Since the set is the first thing the viewers will be seeing due to the introduction, it makes a big difference in how the audience see the show so i think the set design and location was a big decision when planning the show. I also think that the set gives a very professional look to the show if done well. I very important decision when filming The Games Corner was the choice of sound equipment after filming the first episode with the boom mic, we noticed that there was a problem with the audio and it was not as good as it could have been, so making the decision to change to lapel microphones really improved the quality of the show.
Story boarding and planning
Personally I think that the production of The Games Corner went well in comparison to the story boarding ideas. The only change that would make a difference to the footage was the change of camera angles we used in the show. Which would give a more professional an welcoming look to the show. If any improvements were to be made in comparison with the storyboards and the footage it would be to do individual close up shots of the presenters when talking to give it the look of that the presenters are speaking directly to you. Looking at the set designs of the show I think that making the designs of the sets practical was successful.
Quality
I think that the quality of the show is very good, I think that our group successful took on the task of filming and planning and editing very well to achieve and well structured professional looking show. We used a variety of equipment to have a successful outcome such as multiple DSLR cameras that record in full HD multiple tripods for well framed still shots of the presenters. We also had access and used a variety of sound equipment such as the camera microphones if needed as well as external boom microphones and lapel microphones that was attached to the presenters clothes. We also had access to some external lighting if needed when filming the games corner to make the footage as clear as possible. to improve the quality of the show we used different software to put the whole show together, for example Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the footage together and give it a professional look as well as Adobe Audition that we used to edit the audio to better quality and boost the volume if needs be, and also software such as Photoshop which helped to edit the font that you see throughout the show as well as The Games Corner Logo. All those things are used together to give the show a professional and high quality look that it has at the end.
Final Idea
Looking at our first pitch compared to our planning idea, I would say that the group has carried out everything that was required on the show and possibly improved it from its original idea. We was able to do everything that was given to us by the people that we are making the show for. I also think that we have carried out everything that was planned on the story boarding and scripts that was first done for the show in pre production.
Target Audience
The The games corner will be aired at 6pm, this connotes that it would be for people who are interested in games to watch when sitting down for dinner or even just getting home from work and also late enough for most students to be home from school. I would say that the main target audience for The Games Corner would be proper game lovers that want to know everything gaming, it would be their ideal show and all segments of the show would be entertaining. Other audiences that the show would be targeted at would be teenagers and children this is because most children/teenagers will have played or play games on consoles such as Xbox or PlayStation or Nintendo, so the content of the show would be directed at them. Also Watershed does not allow any TV show or film that has sexual or explicit content on to be shown before 9pm so looking at the air time would connote the audience. Another minor target audience would be parents of the gamers, this is because if the adults are looking into what games to buy there children for a present for either Christmas or Birthday then the game review section of the show could really help parents out.
Areas For Improvement
One big improvement that I would say about the studio part of the show is to put in more camera shots and not just leave all the intros and outros done on one camera. Feature some close ups of each presenter talking individually or even put some camera movements in to give it more life to the studio parts. Another improvement I can think of or even just something that we could try would be to possibly have the presenters standing up and stood somewhere else in the studio instead of just cutting back to the same shot in the same location with the presenters in the same position and place. I think that if we had the presenters walking over to a feature board or something in the same style then it would make the presenters look more lively as well as giving a professional look to the footage with the camera movements such as pan or dolly in/out.
